Abbey

Hello! My name is Abbey. I am twenty five years old, and live in Woodbridge with my husband, Lazarus, and two dogs Scooter and Penny. During the day I work at a great place in Centreville, Virginia where I am the Assistant Director of the Daycare & Pre-School. I started working there as an assistant teacher when I was nineteen and going to school to get my degree in Early Childhood Education. Two years later I became the lead teacher. Two years after that, while working full time and going to school at nights and on weekends I got my degree and was promoted to the Assistant Director position where I have been for the past two and a half years.

In my spare time I like to take our dogs for walks with my husband. I also enjoy scrap booking, riding bikes and hanging around with my nephew as much as possible. My mom used to run a daycare out of our home so I have always been around a lot of children. Back then I was the ‘mother hen’. Now, I work well all ages from newborns to toddlers to older kids, or a combination of those. I am flexible. I would really rather do things with the children, it makes time go by faster and it is really fun for them. Things like take them for walks to the park, play board games with them, read stories under a tent with a flash light. Fun stuff. At my job I work daily with children ages 6 weeks to 6 years.

I am CPR and First Aid Certified, and have had my criminal record, sex offender record, and driving record checked and can provide documentation if needed. In addition I have been to over sixty hours of child care classes and seminars, and continue to take 3-6 more hours every month. I am off at my regular job on all Federal holidays so I would be free to work those days if I am available. I am comfortable with overnight care if that is what is needed, I have done it before.

People say I am shy at first but I really do open up when you get to know me. So I hope that I get that opportunity!

Hi my name is Angie Bonilla and I’m 19 years old. I am a sophomore at George Mason University double majoring in Accounting and Business Management with a minor in Spanish. I was born in Miami Beach, Florida but I currently live in Falls Church. My mother is Peruvian and my father is Puerto Rican. I have been babysitting since I was 14 years old and I love every moment of it. I think it’s because I am an only child that I appreciate taking care of children since I never got to do it growing up. I love seeing children grow up and experience new things. I love playing with children and letting them get in touch with their creative side. I am a very creative person and I love using my imagination. I love painting and reading to children. Hi! My name is Cassiopeia, but you can call me Cassi. I am a 21 year old senior at George Mason University. One of my favorite pastimes is traveling (I’ve recently been to Russia, Poland, Ireland and Portugal) I think it has given me a deeper appreciation for life; I also love reading and can never get enough of futbol or soccer as we call it. I am going to be receiving my Bachelors degree in History at the end of this year and plan on continuing my college career and getting a Masters in education. I plan on becoming a teacher, meaning I fully plan on surrounding myself with kids for the rest of my life! For the past year I watched 5 kids ranging in ages 6 months to 10 years of age and would occasionally watch their 2 cousins as well…. thats a total of 7, I repeat 7, youngsters running or crawling around, and it was amazing! There was never a dull moment there, and thats how I like it. I like to stay busy and keep myself and the kids always stimulated by doing something- whether it be drawing or dancing around like no ones watching! I have become so close with that family the kids call me Auntie now. I only mention that because I want you to know that I would look at watching your kids differently. For me its not that I would be coming over to just watch your kids but rather to spend time with them/hang out with them be some one they can have fun with as well as look up to not just one or the other. So if you are looking for someone to be more than a sitter, a potential friend, than I’m the one for you and your child/children!

Hello, my name is Chloe and I am 20 years old. I’m currently a junior at George Mason University, where I am working on a degree in Integrative Studies with a Concentration in Early Childhood Education. I have been working with children since I was about 13 years old. I have worked with preschool-kindergarten age children in summer camps throughout the years. I also have also been a personal nanny. Currently I work at the George Mason Child Development center in the 4 year old classes as a teacher’s assistant. My name is Coree. I am 23 years old and live with my husband’s family in Fairfax near George Mason University where we both take classes. I grew up in Mobile, Alabama with my parents, three siblings and a very close community. As a babysitter, my goal is always to help parents feel as comfortable and confident as possible that their children are being well taken care of. Knowing how important consistency is when taking care of children, I do my best to understand parent’s wishes and desires and make an effort to care for children accordingly. My number one priority and goal in life is to one day raise a family that can testify to the love of God and contribute to the community and on out into the world. Hi, my name is Evelyn and I’ve loved watching kids since I was a teenager in the Philippines. I immigrated in 1987 and started my own daycare business till the end of June this year. I am right now a lead teacher in a big daycare center and love doing art work, going to the playground with the kids and keeping them stimulated with age-appropriate activities. You learn a lot from kids and vice versa and I plan on doing this till my knees give up on me. I have current First Aid and CPR certifications, TB test and tons of hours of daycare training required by the state. I also have an impeccable driving record. Hi, my name is Heather. I am 23 years old & have lived in Fairfax, VA my whole life. I attended St. Leo the Great from k-8th grade, Fairfax for High School, and graduated with a Communication Studies Degree from West Virginia University in spring of 2007. I come from a huge loving family (the tenth child out of eleven) & have helped raised ten nieces & nephews (with one on the way!). I enjoy the outdoors & almost all sports. I grew up playing soccer & basketball. I have previously worked with children at many sports camps, the child center at Lifetime Fitness in Fairfax, and as a camp counselor/lifeguard at Merritt Academy’s Summer programs, and as a lifeguard/swim teacher at many different community pools in Northern VA. I moved to the East coast after graduating from U.C.S.C. in 2006 and have been exploring different career routes since then. I love working with children because its a very rewarding and in most cases a fun job that offers a flexible schedule and changes in routine from day to day! My child care experience comes from: helping my sister raise my niece and nephew from infants to the 8 and 11 year olds they are today, I have taken care of many of my sister’s friends’ children, I’ve worked at 2 different summer camps for a combined 4 years (summers) of experience, and I worked with a family of 3 children for a little over a year (and still work with them from time to time). Hi, I’m Nikki. I am 28 years old and recently moved to NOVA from Florida. As an Army brat, I have live all over the world, and I think that the experiences that I had in all those travels have really influenced who I have become. I have had about 16 years of child care experience. I first started babysitting when I was in middle school and have cared for many families for a number of years, with children ranging in age from newborns to pre-teens. When I was 17, my family opened a child care which I worked in until 2006. I started out as the assistant teacher in the school age program, and when school started, I became the lead teacher of the before and after school program while I attended college. Through the years I have been the lead teacher in the 2 year old, 3 year old, and pre-k classes before I became the Assistant Director of the center. While I was Assistant Director, I was constantly in all of our classrooms (1yo to School-Age) on a regular basis, so I have experience with children of all ages. Our center was one of the largest in the county, and a major portion of families were sent to through the county recommendations, so I have experience with children with not only special family situations, but also special needs. I have my AA in Early Childhood Education (pre-school to early elementary age children), a BA in Literature and I am fully certified through the State of Florida in childcare, specifically developmentally appropriate practices and working with children with special needs. I love living in the Metro area for the fact that there is so much to do around here for children (and the kid at heart, which I still am!). The many different fairs, festivals, and museums around the area still interest me, and I try to experience as many different ones as I can. The culture that the area has to offer is something that every child should experience, to help them grow and become the adult they are destined to be. Just to let you know a little about myself…

I have been playing softball ever since I can remember. For the past three years, I have been playing on the Division I team at Mason. However, this year I have decided to hang up my cleats. I was also a cheerleader all four years of high school. Therefore, I consider myself a very unique person because I have all the girlyness of a cheerleader and all the seriousness and athleticism of a softball player in me (not that cheerleading does not require athleticism, because it does…but you know what I mean). I am currently studying Finance at Mason and I love it. I have always been a very academic person and thus would be very open to helping children with their studies.

I am also an ANIMAL LOVER so pets will never be a problem! I love to cook as well. I look forward to meeting you and your children!

My name is Samantha and I am an 18 year old high school graduate. I moved here 2 years ago from the New Orleans area, because my dad is in the military. I have been baby-sitting for about 5 years, and I have been a nanny to 2 wonderful children for about 5 months. I am currently enrolled at Northern Virginia Community College, majoring in Early Childhood Education. I really hope to be a pre-school teacher after I graduate. I have experience with every age group of children, and certain disabilities. I love working with kids, and enjoy helping them learn and grow. Raised in a household where two cultures lived side by side, I has always led a rich life. Born to Indian immigrants to America and having just lived for half a year in Denmark, I have the advantage of global perspective, which I love to bring to all of my experiences.

I graduated from Mary Baldwin College Magna Cum Laude with a B.A. in Communications. In the summer breaks I worked for Wonders of Wisdom pre-school as both an assistant teacher and lead afternoon teacher for the two-year old group. Following graduation I continued having jobs with children, such as being a reading mentor at Key Elementary School in Arlington and a Sunday School teacher. Recently I returned to higher education, earning my Masters in Business Administration (MBA) at Virginia Commonwealth University this August. During my graduate studies I also worked with children as a first grade reading mentor for Broad Rock Elementary School in Richmond. I love working with children because they are so open to learning, I like the idea of shaping this future adult to become a pretty incredible person! My believe is that children can play and expand their mind at the same time and I try to shape all of my activities to further that goal, from heightening language skills to increasing general awareness of the world, history, math, and science. In my free time I (a natural extrovert), enjoy traveling, dancing, sewing, writing and reading (my favorite book is James and the Giant Peach).
